Twinship: The Space Between engages with the psychoanalytic concept of twinship, coined by Heinz Kohut, which describes a fundamental human longing for similarity, connection, and belonging - the desire to recognize oneself in a “like other.” In this body of work, I explore the delicate emotional terrain between closeness and separation, mirroring and individuality. The painted figures inhabit a state of in-between: bound to one another yet seeking distinction, suspended between tenderness and estrangement. The series is rooted in my personal experience as a mother of twin daughters, painting from within a lived encounter with doubled identity. Through slow, intuitive oil painting, I trace the rhythms of attachment and the fragile choreography of being together while remaining separate.
